It has two functions, it establishes where you are and starts the thinking program as to where you would like to be, in certain aspects of your life that directly impact on home ownership, relocation and retirement planning.

As the Chinese proverb goes, a journey of a million miles starts with the first step. Often that first step is nothing more than a notion, an idea, and a wish, a dream a concept---what ever it seems to you. Ironically, when the goal or destination we seek is living the handcrafted life, part of the goal must be flexibility. The destinations of our lives are moving targets. If we are not willing to make transformations and then more transformations, we will not have the ultimate satisfaction we seek.

Why not?

Because the goal of great living is to create a great journey, and a journey without stagnations, a critical path with no dead-ends.

Retirement, for example, can become stagnant and dead ended. To the present generations, the original concept of retirement is a monumental failure. People die of retirement, they tire of retirement. Retirement in the old fashioned, "put me out to pasture" sense, is not sustainable for a generation with our stunning life expectancy. At the turn of the century life expectancy was 47, in the 1940's when Social Security was developed is was 68. Today, the fastest growing segment of our population are those over age 85, and the next fastest those over 100.

Today's generations are pioneers in the field of aging and in living the handcrafted life though all the years to come. We now have opportunity beyond past belief for making the second half of life ""for which the first was made*" more vital, more rich and more relevant than our past.

But, it has been our experience that as you think and dream about your future, you will be abruptly confronted with practical questions about the value of your home, your cash flow, your debts, your work, your family and the best location in which to live the handcrafted life.

Issues of: "Where Shall I live if I sell the house?" "Can I afford to live the life I love?" "How can I meet I obligations to children and aging parents?" And ultimately, "What do I really want? What is the handcrafted life for me."
